Welcome back to the Summer Term at St Cuthbert’s Primary. We hope that you and your families have had as good a holiday as it was possible to have within the constraints of the lockdown and that you enjoyed the lovely weather. Please see our latest update below as we move into Term 3.
Digital Learning This Term
Schools currently remain closed and we have no indication of any possible return date at the moment. During this time of closure, City of Edinburgh Council recommends a maximum of 3-4 hours concentrated academic work a day for pupils (this obviously varies when pupils are younger and less able to sustain long periods of concentration). To meet this aspiration at an age and stage appropriate level, our teachers are asked to post the following learning on a daily basis:
- 1 piece of Literacy Work
- 1 piece of Numeracy work
- Where age appropriate 15 minutes of reading in the morning and the same in the afternoon.
- Teachers will also post 2 P.E. activities and 2 R.E activities a week.
Parents and Pupils should feel very welcome to share examples of work with teachers.
If you want advice on how to do this please contact our admin mailbox – email@example.com
P7 Transition Forum – Open from 21st April 2020
This initiative is intended to support those current P7 pupils who will be attending St Augustine’s High School in academic year 2020-21 and went live today. The dedicated Microsoft Team will allow staff from St Augustine’s to share information about the school with pupils and allow pupils to put their questions to staff within a safe, moderated environment. Miss Munro has sent invitations to relevant pupils asking them to join the Team and some initial content has already been posted by St Augustine’s staff. More will follow over the coming days.
Learning Journals Update
You should now be able to view your children’s Term 1 and Term 2 observations on Learning Journals. We hope you enjoy viewing these and discussing them with your children. Thank you to all of you have registered for this platform last term, if you haven’t already done so, please contact our admin mailbox (see below for address) to register. In the coming days, we will share our plans for the utilisation of Learning Journals this term.
For the attention of Applicants and Potential Applicants for places at St Cuthbert’s Nursery, August 2020
We posted a letter yesterday from City of Edinburgh Council on all of our platforms last term. The letter relates to nursery provision for 2020-21. We have re-posted today. Please read it and let us know if you have any questions about its contents. If you cannot find the letter on our platforms, please let us know and we can e-mail it to you via the admin mailbox.
Message from Fr Duffy and St Cuthbert’s Parish
I have spoken to Fr Duffy over the holidays and he sends his prayers and best wishes to you all. I hope some of you may have had the opportunity to view his Good Friday service and Easter Mass, they were uplifting to watch and engage with. Father is currently reviewing his plans for First Holy Communions in the light of the changed situation we find ourselves in and will be in contact with parents/carers if any change to original plans are made. If you have any queries about this in the meantime, please feel free to contact Fr Duffy directly.
Families Edinburgh Digital Magazine – May/June 2020

Key Worker Hubs
A survey e-mail was sent to relevant parents last week from City of Edinburgh Council. Parents/Carers can select the most suitable to them from a list of hubs.
Communication with Parents/Carers
We will continue to communicate daily via our app, website, Learning Journals and Twitter. You don’t need to check every platform as the same information is shared on each to ensure we have the widest outreach possible.
Please do not hesitate to ask us if you have any questions. This can be done using our admin mailbox:
Thanks for your continued support.
