Parent and Carer Update: 12th June

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please see update for Friday 11th June below.

Letter to Parents/Carers from City of Edinburgh Council re Plans for Schools Re-opening in August 2020

A link to this letter should be received by all parents and carers via text from City of Edinburgh Council. I also thought it would be worthwhile sharing via our own school digital platforms.

The school will communicate further details of these plans by Wednesday 24th June.

St Cuthbert’s Pupils Successes

The superb efforts of our pupils who took part in the recent TT Rockstars Maths Competition ensured that the school finished in the top 20 within Scotland (16th place). Miss Munro also awarded virtual certificates to the top 3 scorers in each class. Thanks to all pupils who took part, to parents/carers and teachers who supported and encouraged them and to Miss Munro for organising.

Congratulations also to our P6; one of whose pupils won the Games at the Hub quiz for the whole of Edinburgh. Thanks again to Miss Kallinikou for supporting all P6 pupils with this event.

P7-S1 Transition Resources – 16th-18th June

City of Edinburgh Council have developed a transition resource for pupils in P7 who are going into S1 next year. St Augustine’s have shared a digital version of this on the transition designated page of their website and via their Transition MS Team. We will also share this resource digitally next week.

The resource is designed to give pupil’s a transition focus from Tuesday 16th June to Thursday 18th June 2020, the days when pre-CV19 the pupils would have been making their transition visits. Miss Munro will share tasks each day via Teams.

If anyone wishes to receive a paper copy of these resources they can be obtained in the same way that our stationery offers have been in the past, via a trolley placed just inside our school gates. Please observe social distancing when collecting these resources and let us know if you have any questions about them. We will confirm on Monday a date next week when paper copies of this resource will be made available (hopefully Tuesday)

Stationery Offer – Monday 15th June

The final offer of stationery this year will take place on Monday 15th June. Location of stationery will be just inside the school gates from 9.30-10.30am. Please keep a social distance when accessing resources. Thank you.

Nursery-P1 Important Transition Information

As previously referred to, in the absence of the opportunity to organise Transition Visits to Primary Schools, the City of Edinburgh Council have produced their own transition materials based on the book ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’. These materials can be found at:

www.bearhuntedinburgh.wordpress.com

Translated versions of the materials can be found here:

We normally send home hard copies of this magazine and thought you might like to view it digitally using the link below.

Summer Reading Challenge – Message from City of Edinburgh Council Libraries

With the current disruptions caused by COVID-19 and the impact of social distancing on places of learning and public libraries, we at Edinburgh Libraries are unable to visit your classes in person before pupils break for the Summer holidays so the 2020 Summer Reading Challenge will launch for the first time ever this year as a free online activity.

Children can register for the Summer Reading Challenge here:

https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

I hope you and your families have a restful weekend

Kind regards

Pat Brack, HT and all at St Cuthbert’s Primary.
