St. Cuthbert’s RC Primary School
Newsletter 31 – Friday 23rd April 2021
St Cuthbert’s CARES We are: Creative Active Respectful Equal Supported
Thanks for reading this special paper edition of our newsletter. We are aware that we have had many new families join the school this year and that not all may be familiar with our weekly online newsletter so we wanted to raise awareness of its existence by providing a one-off paper copy to all families this week. Going forward the newsletter will continue to be posted on our school website, school app and Learning Journals platforms weekly by 5pm on a Friday.
Sacramental Celebrations – Summer Term
As you may be aware Fr Duffy is not well at present and a supply priest – Fr Aidan Cannon – has been arranged to cover for Fr in his absence. I met with him yesterday and the following arrangements have been confirmed.
· P3 -First Reconciliations will be held within the school on Tuesday 11th May. Unfortunately due to Covid regulations, we are unable to invite parents and carers to this celebration. Celebrating this sacrament this term will however enable pupils to celebrate First Holy Communions with families in attendance next year.
· P4 – First Holy Communions will be celebrated in the church on 2 consecutive Saturdays at 9.30am Mass: 29th May and 5th June. In order to try and give as much notice as possible to families we will send letters out next week confirming your child’s date. Each child can be accompanied by 5 guests.
· P7 – Confirmations will be celebrated on Tuesday 25th and Thursday 27th May at 7pm in the Church. Letters will be sent out week commencing 3rd May confirming arrangements. Again, each candidate can bring 5 guests with them.
School Events Calendar
A calendar confirming key events this term will be posted online with next week’s newsletter. A paper copy will also be provided.
Crossing Patrol Officer
As you may know, our Crossing Patrol Officer retired at the end of last term. We contacted the Council Department responsible re when this vacancy will be filled and they assured us that they are actively seeking to recruit an officer for our school and several other local schools. They have promised to keep me informed and I will pass on any information I receive to you as soon as I have it.
Mrs Mulvagh is absent through ill health at the moment and is expected to be off for several weeks. Please be assured that we have a contingency plan in place until her return. We wish Mrs Mulvagh a speedy recovery.

The nursery team has welcomed the children back from the holidays and they are pleased that the children seem really happy to be back. We have welcomed more new children this week and they seem to be settling in well. We are making use of the weather and most of our learning is being conducted outdoors. Parents are encouraged to apply sun-cream to their children when they come in and members of staff will top it up in the afternoon. A copy of our Sun Protection Policy has been shared with the families. Children attending nursery will be offered 3 different patterns of attendance from August 2021. Letters to confirm choices of attendance patterns will be sent early next week.
We would also encourage you to keep following our nursery twitter account @stcnurseryclass and call us on 0131 443 2621 or e-mail email@example.com if you have any questions.
