Whilst visiting BEAR Scotland, we learned about the jobs of civil engineers and explored three types of bridges: cantilever, cable-stayed, and suspension.
We then worked in teams as project managers, health and safety officers, and communication liaisons to create our own bridges. Our structures had to use all the materials provided, stand independently, and meet a required length. Every team was successful — we truly have a class full of young engineers!
After our constructions were complete, we walked along the old road bridge. It was very windy, and some of us were surprised by the height, but we managed it. What a fun and memorable day!
