Recreating a Celtic Roundhouse

Primary 4 have been learning about Celtic roundhouses. We discovered that roundhouses were important community buildings in Celtic times. They were built using wattle and daub for the walls and had large conical roofs made from thatch. Inside, families lived around a central open fire, which was used for cooking and heating. There were no chimneys, so the smoke drifted up through the thatched roof. Sometimes, even farm animals were kept inside the roundhouse to keep them safe and warm.

In class, we recreated roundhouses using clay and straw. We really enjoyed constructing them, and even using them for play afterwards!

P4 Maths Week Scotland

The theme this year was โ€˜Wild Mathsโ€™ and we took this opportunity to get outdoors! ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿƒ

First, we were learning how to measure in cm/mm. We did a scavenger hunt in the playground, looking for items of specific sizes and lengths. We were also developing our digital skills by documenting our findings using the iPad to create a photo log. ๐Ÿ“ธ ๐Ÿ“

We were also lucky enough to have Margon from the Green Team visit us! She brought a whole host of natural goodies that we had to organise from largest to smallest, count using tally marks and sort into different categories.

What a fun week of Wild Maths!

Primary 4 – Floorbook

Primary 4 Update

Primary 4 have had a really positive week! โœจ We have been learning how to write engaging story starters and practising partitioning numbers up to 1000. Alongside this, weโ€™ve been setting weekly goals and reflecting on our learning in our class floorbook.

Setting weekly goals helps us stay focused and gives us something to aim towards each week. Everyone has worked really hard, and we are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown.

Well done, P4! ๐Ÿ‘

Bursting, Bright Berries ๐Ÿซ

Primary 4 had a fantastic time taking part in outdoor learning! ๐ŸŒณ We have been developing our writing skills by exploring interesting adjectives to describe how objects may look, sound, and feel. ๐Ÿคš

Out in the playground, we went on a scavenger hunt ๐Ÿ‘€ and discovered bursting, bright berries and plump, juicy pears. ๐Ÿ These became the perfect inspiration for our descriptive writing!

Class Charter and using suffix โ€˜yโ€™

Primary 4 have had another excellent week! ๐Ÿ˜Š

We have completed our class charter. As a class we decided to focus on Article 3 (Best interests of the child), Article 12 (Respect for Childrenโ€™s views) and Article 29 (Aims of Education). Each child created a weaved kilt to represent their agreement with our charter.

We think it looks fabulous!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

We have also been learning to spell words with the suffix โ€˜yโ€™. Who can name all of the vowels? ๐Ÿค”

Well done P4! Keep up the hard work! โœ๏ธ

A Fantastic Start ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

The first full week โœ”๏ธ

P4 have had an excellent start to their first few days! ๐Ÿ˜Š We have been enjoying learning new routines, beginning our place value numeracy unit, and exploring plural nouns. ๐Ÿงฎ

We were also lucky to have a special visit from Ms. MacKinnon, the Schools Choral Director from St. Maryโ€™s Cathedral. We are delighted to announce that she will be working with P4 every Monday morning on vocal, aural, and rhythm skills. ๐ŸŽถ

What an exciting few days it has beenโ€”keep it up, P4!
