Primary 4 had a fantastic adventure at Craigmillar Castle on Thursday! After a long bus journey and a lovely woodland walk, we arrived at the grand castle, ready to step back in time. 🌳🏰
We were introduced to lots of fascinating castle artefacts and learned all about how people lived, worked and defended themselves hundreds of years ago. Our absolute favourites had to be the chainmail and helmet — we couldn’t resist imagining ourselves as medieval knights! 🛡️⚔️
We then set off to explore the castle and its grounds, discovering poisonous berry trees, winding spiral staircases, medieval toilets and enormous fireplaces along the way. We even climbed right up to the castle roof to keep watch for any approaching enemy attackers! 👀🏹
It was a wonderful opportunity to bring our learning to life and experience a little piece of Scotland’s history for ourselves. P4 were a real asset to St Cuthbert’s, showing fantastic manners, asking thoughtful questions and listening carefully to all the wonderful facts shared by the Historic Environment Scotland staff.
