P4 Visit to Queensferry Crossing

Whilst visiting BEAR Scotland, we learned about the jobs of civil engineers and explored three types of bridges: cantilever, cable-stayed, and suspension.

We then worked in teams as project managers, health and safety officers, and communication liaisons to create our own bridges. Our structures had to use all the materials provided, stand independently, and meet a required length. Every team was successful — we truly have a class full of young engineers!

After our constructions were complete, we walked along the old road bridge. It was very windy, and some of us were surprised by the height, but we managed it. What a fun and memorable day!

Book Week Scotland for P4!

We really enjoyed reading The Ballad of Cactus Joe by Lily Murray and Clive McFarland. We were especially enthused by Joe’s prickly personality and even wrote special applications to become Joe’s companion in the desert! We also recognised the rhyming patterns in the story and tried to emulate them in our own writing — we found this so fun!

Throughout the week, we had lots of time to read texts of our own choosing, visit the school library, and discuss our books with friends. Some people have even begun writing their own stories!
